Update on measles outbreak declared on Merseyside

A measles outbreak has been declared on Merseyside. There are 13 confirmed and 16 suspected cases ranging in age from nine months to adults aged in their 20s. Six people, four children and two adults, required treatment in hospital. This compares to just one confirmed case on Merseyside in the first six weeks of 2011 and one in the corresponding period of 2010.

10 February 2012, 1400hrs. The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has this week been alerted by the Spanish public health authorities about a further case of Legionnaires’ Disease in a UK resident who stayed at the Diamante Beach Hotel in Calpe, Costa Blanca, as well as two French cases. This brings the total number of UK residents associated with this cluster to 12, with three deaths.

Repeat Prescriptions

pharmacist_4 If you have previously been given a prescription for a straightforward condition, such as hayfever, we may be able to issue a repeat prescription . Please ask the receptionist.

Your local pharmacist should be able to give you advice for non-prescription medication.

For patients requiring repeat prescriptions you can register for the Repeat Dispensing Scheme through your local pharmacy . This service allows you to reorder directly through the pharmacy without having to contact or visit the surgery if you would like your prescription collected or posted to a pharmacy you will need to speak to the pharmacy direct the surgery can not do this for you.

Alternatively you may order your repeat prescription in writing or by following the link to the online form above. Requesting your prescription in this way is quick, convenient and secure.

Please allow 48 working hours for any orders, as your GP will need to check your medical records before reissuing your prescription. Prescriptions are always ready AFTER 1.00pm

As it is a very busy time for requests the last date for ordering to guarantee your prescription will be ready for collection before Christmas is Friday 16th December after this date we can not guarantee your request will be dealt with before christmas due to the large volume of requests

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
